Choosing Your Dogi: Comfort vs. Durability
In Aikido, the Dogi (uniform) is your primary equipment. Depending on your age and preference, the material thickness makes a big difference:
- For Kids: Beginner dogis are typically made from thin, breathable cotton. This keeps kids cool during active play and ensures the fabric isn't too heavy or restrictive for smaller frames.
- For Adults: You have the luxury of choice!
- Thin/Lightweight: Excellent for hot dojos or beginners who want maximum mobility and a faster drying time.
- Thick/Double Weave: These are heavier and more "traditional." They offer more padding for grabs and are extremely durable, though they take longer to dry.
